The Cost of Obesity

Childhood obesity is one of areas in public health with the most focus in the 21st century of the United States (US Department of Health and Human Services; U.S. Department of Agriculture; U.S. Department of Education, 2011). Obesity in children and adolescents, as is with adults, has numerous negative consequences at all levels: from affecting individual health to impacting the health of the nation as a whole. Once considered an adult condition, obesity has been increasingly diagnosed among children and adolescents (Carpio, 2008).
