The Cost of Obesity

Childhood obesity is one of areas in public health with the most focus in the 21^st century of the United States (US Department of Health and Human Services; U.S. Department of Agriculture; U.S. Department of Education, 2011). Obesity in children and adolescents, as is with adults, has numerous negative consequences at all levels: from affecting individual health to impacting the health of the nation as a whole. Once considered an adult condition, obesity has been increasingly diagnosed among children and adolescents (Carpio, 2008).
