I stooped eating dressing since a few years ago (2007) when I tried to lose weight. For a long while, I didn't eat any dressing at all, but the my salad got boring. I now make my own salad dressings; I add as much or as little as I want, and they always taste so good! You save so much my making your own dressing: money and calories!
A good friend of mine asked me for my dressing recipe. She tried it today and loved it (we had lunch together)! So I decided to post it. Here it is!
Salad (Tomato) Dressing
1 tbsp. of lemon juice
2 tbsp. of balsamic vinegar
1-2 tsp. of agave syrup
Lemon pepper to taste
1 tsp. olive oil (optional)
1 chopped fresh tomato (optional)
Add all ingredients in a small bowl and whisk
well – add to your salad and enjoy!
I want to share with you that recently I decided to cut out oils from my nutrition. I've done some reading about them and they are not a health food. Oil is just fat, even if it's "essential" or highly recommended as is olive and coconut oil.
So you're probably wondering where I get my fat...I get them from the food I already eat: veggies and fruits, even legumes have a little fat. With a vegan diet, it is impossible to not get the fats you need (or protein you need, for that matter).
I also eat some nuts, but honestly, I have been cutting those too - especially right now because my wedding is a few days away and I am trying to lean out. So I guess you can say I am on a diet for the next 4 weeks ;)
Plant
oils are still far better that animal oils or fat, though, but they
should be eaten only sparingly. Especially for weight/fat loss: oils are
just fat whether they are a "healthy" fat or not. One gram of oil has 9
calories, compared to 4 calories in carbohydrate or protein. So fat is
fat.
Anyway, you can chose to add oil or not to your salad. I just told you what I think :)
