I completed my 21 day Vegan Challenge on the 21st of January! I had decided to continue it until the end of the month and just see what happens.Yesterday, on the 28yh day, Bret and I went to visit my parents and planned to have dinner there. The thought of my mom's food watered my mouth. I love my mom's cooking!!! I love traditional Mexican food!

Before we left our house, I told Bret, "mmm, I'm craving una torta de huevo!" (a Mexican egg sandwich). I really did crave it and I intended to eat my mom's food--even if it had animal products, like eggs or cheese. I had already completed my 21 (or 28) day challenge and I didn't think it would be a big deal if I didn't continue my 30 day vegan challenge.

My mom made picadillo: chopped avocado, onion, cilantro, tomatoes and peppers with crumbled queso fresco (Mexican cheese). Cheese was the only animal product I had fro dinner. It was so good! I enjoyed eating this way!

After dinner I also had some pan dulce. It was the first time I had eaten Mexican sweet bread in a couple months, at least! To be honest, I didn't really enjoy it. I only had a couple of bites and I was like, "eh..." I don't know if my taste buds adapted to enjoy fresh, live food without sugar added or if it was because the bread weren't that good to begin with.

Not sticking to the 30 day challenge, I once intended to complete, is not such a big deal to me. I tried a vegan lifestyle for 28 days, and I learned that there will be occasions--when I go to my parents or family's homes--when I will want eat something with animal products. And that is okay to do.

Love,

Bea
